Note: Many of these pictures are very large. They make look jagged. Look for the icon that lets you view them at full size to fix that.

I started the engine by looking for an old 351W block. I found one in KY. It was a little rusty but was standard bore. Turned out after cleaning and testing that it had a crack in one of the bores. BB&T sleeved it for me.

This is what a nice '69 model looks like after cleaning:

I called BB&T Racing in Mississippi to build the engine. Derrick and Dennis were very helpful every step of the way. The engine is an 8.65:1 compression 383 Windsor. Based off a '69 351 Windsor block, it has an Eagle 4340 crank and H-Beam rods with L19 rod bolt upgrade along with custom Diamond pistons and hell fire rings. A custom cam, stock Edelbrock Victor Jr. heads and CHP EFI Spyder intake complete the top end. I picked up the engine in mid May while I was in north Mississippi on business. When I tried to get it out of the back of the truck, I ran into a few snags. I couldn't get the equipment I needed to lift the engine, so Eric once again improvised a solution using cheap stuff from Lowe's. The pictures below show the cheap chain with price tags still on some of the parts.

With a sturdy 351 block, Cometic head gaskets, ARP head studs, an adequate fuel system and a good tune on the FAST, I hope to keep the gaskets in place and the maintenance low.

Build Specs:

'69 Windsor block .030 over.  ARP main studs, no girdle - they said they just hold your carnage together rather than prevent it.

Eagle 4340 crank '0' balance, '0' balance internal balancer

Eagle 4340 steel H beam rods with L19 rod bolt upgrade

Diamond custom pistons with 33cc dish. Top ring land moved down to stay away from heat.  w/ 60cc head = 8.65:1 comp. Hell fire ring upgrade

Moroso pan / Melling hi-vol oil pump and pickup

ARP head studs

Edelbrock Victor Jr. heads 60cc 2.05/1.60 valves / Cometic head gaskets / Comp cams pro magnum 1.6 rockers 7/16" ARP studs

UPR timing pointer / Comp Billet 9 key timing chain

Coast High Performance EFI Spyder intake with fuel rails and elbow - port matched to a Fel-Pro 1262 gasket

Crane Link Bar hydro lifters for standard base circle hydro cam in non-roller blocks

FMS tall polished valve covers

Engine has been primed and stored in an air conditioned garage.

I got the fuel system used. It uses (2) 255 lph pumps mounted on a plate near the tank.  The fuel rails came with the Spyder intake.

Why is the engine built so strong? I have a B&G Custom turbo kit ready to go. It consists of ceramic coated hot side, powder coated cold side, Precision 74mm GTSH turbo and a massive 31"x12"x4" intercooler.

Update 4/9/08: I bought a FAST stand alone SEFI! This is a used unit that is sequential and comes with an external data logger. The external data logger means I wont need a laptop in the car to data log while I'm driving. It was used on Doug Mangrum's 6 second Pro car. It has all the software updates that a Classic FAST can get. It should work real well for me.

Update 8/16/08: I picked up a slightly used Tremec T56 transmission. It came with the D&D kit that includes a Dynatech aluminum driveshaft, trans crossmember, shifter, speedo cable, etc. It will shift great and should work for what I am doing. It also came with a Spec stage 3 clutch and pressure plate.
